United Way Coats for Kids and Families

Oct. 30, 2017

We would love to have our players and teams involved in this initiative. As Alex Ovechkin said, “I think every human can do something, a coat or a shirt or whatever.”

Rian Santos of SSAC Bantam AA Barbecue Country, would like for all hockey associations to assist in keeping Edmonton warm this winter.

“I started an initiative in early September by hosting a "Coats for Kids & Families" drive at my school, to simply collect gently used winter apparel that my classmates have outgrown. It has since grown and we know have donation boxes in some rec centres. To keep the momentum going, I recently challenged ALL Ten SSAC teams to either donate or start their own coat drives at school.

Coats for Kids and Families is a United Way initiative that began in 1992 due to overwhelming requests from families and individuals with limited resources in need of winter apparel. In 2016 - 6,680 coats were distributed.

I would like to ask if you could spread the word to your organization.

Thank you for your consideration,

Rian Santos
